Located prominently in the evolving cultural and commercial landscape of the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the Thompson LES hotel acts as a gateway and destination point.

This boutique hotel consists of 141 hotel rooms, including a duplex penthouse and several 1-bedroom suites. Features include a two-story lobby / lounge, two separate bars, a restaurant with discrete entrance, 5,000 square feet of outdoor terraces including an outdoor pool, a tranquil spa, and 5,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.

Although 110,000 square feet and 19 stories tall, the building engages the city at a scale consistent with the existing morphology. The retail and restaurant features step down to two stories on the narrow Orchard Street side, and the cantilevered hotel rooms and main thrust of the building are strongly established on the wide boulevard of Allen Street.
A clear palette of materials works through the building from exterior to interior: exposed concrete, black anodized aluminum, terracotta rainscreen, dark wood millwork, basalt stone, and glass.
Interior design was a collaborative effort with Jim Walrod and incorporates artwork by Lee Friedlander, Peter Halley, and Gerard Malanga.
